There are renewed calls on farmers in the North West to be vigilant over signs of bluetongue in cattle. 

It as cases of the disease are said to be skyrocketing in England in recent weeks.  

It's understood there are high fatality rates on sheep farms particularly and while it may not be causing fatalities among cattle farms it is said to be affecting the health of cattle and reducing fertility in cattle herds and sheep flocks.

Sligo Leitrim TD and Sinn Fein's Agriculture Spokesperson Martin Kenny has the following advice and is urging farmers to be vigilant:
