Ambulance workers in the North West and the rest of the country have begun industrial action as they prepare for a 24 hour work stoppage tomorrow.

EMTs, Paramedics and Advanced Paramedics are engaging in the work to rule today, before a strike begins at 8am.

SIPTU says further work stoppages are scheduled for the 19th and 26th of May, and on dates in June.

Sinn Fein Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny says this should have been averted and is calling on the Health Minister to intervene:
