The Marine Minister has reaffirmed that the Government will support the fishing sector during a weekend visit to south Donegal. 

Minister Martin Heydon spent much of his visit in Killybegs, where he is said to have heard directly about the challenges and pressures facing the industry. 

Local fishermen and women are said to be facing a very uncertain future with the industry facing a devastating 70% mackerel quota reduction for 2026, which threatens a €200 million loss for the industry and coastal communities.

Fine Gael Senator Manus Boyle is confident that ever effort will be made to help the sector navigate the difficult times ahead:
