The Transport Minister has officially signed off on the contract to proceed with The Eastern Garavogue Bridge and approach roads project in Sligo.

The scheme will include approximately 1.8 kilometres of new road north of the Garavogue River, upgrades to some of the existing road south of the river, new cycle tracks and footpaths, and improvements to existing walking and cycling infrastructure.

The final plan is a 70-metre single-span tied arch bridge with a slender, central steel arch rib rising nearly 35 metres above the river deck.

Local TD and Minister of State, Frank Feighan TD has described it as another vital piece of infrastructure for the town of Sligo:
