Met Eireann has come in for criticism after heavy winds battered the North West overnight with no weather warning in place. 

Several routes across the region are impacted by fallen debris this morning while a tree is currently down on the Coast Road in Beltra in the vicinity of Ballinlig National School. 

While a weather alert is coming into effect for the entire country tomorrow evening from 7pm until 8am on Friday, there was no warning issued by Met Eireann for last night. 

Donegal County Councillor Michael Boyle has hit out at forecaster saying many people locally were caught off guard:
