Many households across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are in arrears on the electricity bills. 

Nationally, the number of households behind on their energy bills has hit a new record high, according to the latest data from the C-R-U.

Figures show 14 percent of electricity customers, and 27 percent of gas customers, are behind on payments.

Local Sinn Fein Cllr Arthur Gibbons says the figures don't reflect those on pay as you go electricity.

He has described the situation as a crisis:
