The Government will do everything it can to lessen cost of living challenges for people in the North West and elsewhere. 

That's according to local Junior Minister Frank Feighan, who has been reacting to ongoing speculation over the reintroduction of full excise duties on fuel.

The national average price for diesel is around 1 euro 90 cent per litre right now, but could climb to 2 euro 20 per litre if they're phased back in from September as planned.

The Public Expenditure Minister says he will assess the price of fuel in early September, and the gradual return to full excise duties could start from then as planned.

Minister Feighan expects any decisions to be measured:
