Failing infrastructure is being blamed for cancellations in Elective Orthopaedic Surgeries at Sligo University Hospital.

It’s understood that five procedures have been cancelled this week including four hip replacements and one knee replacement.

It’s due to yet another leak in the orthopaedic theatre complex - this time arising from radiator supply pipework.

This latest disruption comes just two weeks after elective orthopaedic surgery resumed, following a complete suspension since early December due to bed pressures.

Local Fianna Fail Cllr and member of the regional health forum Edel MacSharry says it’s clear that patch up jobs are not enough anymore:
