Hopes for a Donegal Garda dog unit have been further dashed after it emerged that the only dog in training didn't pass the tests.

It had been thought locally that such a unit would be established in the County but in recent months An Garda Siochana confirmed there are no plans currently on the table.

The issue was raised again this week at the latest sitting of the Local Community Safety Partnership by Independent Cllr Michael McClafferty.

Speaking to Ocean FM news, Cllr McClafferty believes having a unit established in this region is absolutely essential for effective policing:
