There are further calls for Sligo County Council and other local authorities to be given more powers to control the amount of vape shops in town centres.

A vape shop campaign which began in Sligo is said to be gaining significant momentum, with several other towns and villages across the country airing the same concerns.

Signage is said to be the main issue with claims many shop fronts resemble those of a sweet shop.

An audit carried out in Sligo earlier this year found a number of vape shops were found to be in breach of planning regulations with regard to excessive signage.
