Further consideration is being given to having Donegal lifeguards on duty sooner.

Currently lifeguards don't start until June and it's thought with the initial warm spell earlier this year that they should be monitoring beaches from May instead. 

There were a number of incidents in May, most notably in Bundoran, where there were no lifeguards on duty to assist in a number of rescue operations. 

Local Sinn Fein Cllr Michael McMahon is confident they will be in situ earlier in 2027:
