The amount paid out to farmers in Sligo and Leitrim in fuel supports has been described as disappointing. 

Over €450,000 is to be shared among farmers and agricultural contractors across Sligo and Leitrim with a total of 1,137 payments are to be issued across the two Counties. 

The Fuel Income Support Scheme was introduced as a targeted measure to assist farmers and agricultural contractors who experienced significant increases in fuel costs during spring 2026. 

However it's claimed the process in applying for the payments was too complicated for many in the region. 

Sligo Cllr Michael Clarke has reiterated that the measures do not go far enough:
