A former Donegal Sergeant has raised concern over the pressure Gardai face with the upcoming US President's visit and policing the EU Presidency. 

It comes as the Garda Representative Association is to hold an emergency meeting next week to discuss the next steps in its row with management over working conditions.

The issue has come to a head after the days leading up to and during President Trump's visit to Ireland have been designated an 'extraordinary event'.

That means leave is cancelled and there are extended working hours and other restrictions.

Christy Galligan says while he's confident Gardai will step up to the plate, it'll be a complex operation:
