There are fears the new planning rules for rural and Gaeltacht housing won't address the difficulties faced by many on a road in County Donegal. 

The N56, which spans from Donegal Town, Killybegs, Dungloe all the way into Letterkenny currently has restrictions that prohibit "one-off" family housing in a bid to protect road capacity.

Many families locally are said to find it impossible to obtain planning permission on or near the route. 

Cathaoirleach of the Donegal MD and Independent Cllr Jimmy Brogan says while overall it's a positive step forward, a lot of people in his area could still lose out:
