It's claimed elderly people in the North West are afraid to heat their homes.

It comes as a motion is to be brought before the Dáil this week demanding urgent action to tackle the soaring cost of home heating oil, petrol and diesel.

Householders in the region and beyond continue to grapple with the cost of living crisis. 

The Private Members' motion, which will be debated on Wednesday, calls on the government to immediately intervene to reduce fuel prices and scrap planned tax increases on home heating oil.

Sinn Feins Finance Spokesperson and Donegal TD Pearse Doherty says the debate will give Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael an opportunity to finally act:
