A North West TD has questioned how Ireland has the highest energy prices in Europe while windfarms are allowed to lie idle in Donegal.

 

The Comments from Deputy Pádraig Mac Lochlainn were made ahead of officials from the energy regulator facing a grilling on high electricity prices at the Oireachtas Energy committee today.

 

Sinn Féin says the Electricity Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2026 is aimed at ensuring affordable energy for consumers.

 

The Sinn Fein TD says the local electricity infrastructure is not adequate to support the generation of wind electricity

 

He also claims the decision to which allowed the ESB to privatised is now coming home to roost
