An emergency motion calling for peace on the Garvaghy Road has been passed by Donegal County Council. 

The motion, brought forward by Sinn Fein Cllr Gerry McMonagle received unanimous backing at this week's plenary meeting. 

A stand-off continues over a contentious Orange Order march in Portadown, along the mainly nationalist Garvaghy Road.

It was cleared by to go ahead on Sunday morning for the first time in almost 30 years, but the road was blocked by protestors.

Cllr McMonagle has spent the last few days with residents on the Garvaghy road and speaking to Ocean FM news, he says nobody wants to go back to the past:
