A Sligo Leitrim TD has expressed his disappointment with the decision taken by Brittany Ferries to end its livestock transport services from Ireland to mainland Europe from next month.


The export sector is seen as vital trading practice that adds competition for the livestock produced in this country and farmers are calling for this sales outlet to be maintained.


In 2025, nearly 310,000 cattle were exported from Ireland, according to Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine figures.

Sligo Deputy Eamon Scanlon says the decision taken by Brittany Ferries is bad news for Irish farmers.
