A Leitrim councillor has shared his thoughts on the proposed changes to primary school hours.

Recommendations from the Oireachtas Education Committee include reviewing the earlier finishing time for infant classes, as well as restructuring breaks for more play or rest time in school.

The last changes to the primary school hour structure came in 1995.

Cllr James Gilmartin said that the proposed change to introduce regular 15 minute breaks is a positive step:
