A decision on the local property tax for County Sligo will be taken later this year.

Rates remained unchanged in Sligo heading into 2026. 

Leitrim County Council decided to increase property tax by almost 10 euro per household which will come into effect in 2027. 

Sligo Sinn Fein Cllr Arthur Gibbons has reiterated his calls for the tax to be abolished altogether. 

He described the tax as unfair on households who are already at the pin of their collar:
