There's been a spate of tool thefts across the country.

Gardaí are investigating incidents in recent days of large quantities of tools being stolen from vans in Donegal, Limerick, Kildare and Dublin.

It's prompting calls for mandatory sentences of three years for the theft, burglary, robbery or handling of stolen work equipment.
