There are no current plans to expand opening hours at local primary care centres.

 

It's thought that the fully equipped centres could be staffed during evenings and weekends in a bid to take the pressure off Sligo University Hospital.

 

The HSE say a number of projects are in the pipeline like the long awaited surgical hub in Sligo which will alleviate bed capacity issue.

 

However they did not indicate a willingness to look into extending opening hours at local primary care centres. 

 

Cathaoirleach of the Sligo Drumcliff MD and Independent Cllr Marie Casserly says it's something that should be explored:
