A Leitrim councillor has said the cost of childcare in the county points to a broader national issue.

It comes as a report earlier today showed that parents in Leitrim could pay up to €205 per week on childcare, the highest in the North West.

Childcare services in Sligo are said to range from €155 to €190 weekly, while in Donegal services cost from €164.50 to €191 weekly.

Independent Councillor James Gilmartin says that the costs of running childcare services are prohibitive:
