There are calls for a major financial package to help people build homes in rural and Gaeltacht areas in the North West.

It comes as landowners will soon be able to build a second one off house on their land under new plans approved by Cabinet.

Also included in the plans are clarity and consistency in the planning system and the protection of the Irish language in Gaeltacht areas.

It's been welcomed by rural communities.

But Donegal County Councillor Michael Choilm MacGiollqa Easbuig is concerned that the measures won't go far enough as many simply don't have the money to build in the first place due to skyrocketing costs:
