Failed efforts by ATU Sligo to buy a major site in Ballinode have been defended. 

It follows revelations that despite Sligo County Council offering the ATU to purchase lands close to the campus 18 months ago, the sale didn't progress.

Fianna Fail Cllr Seamus Kilgannon says the ATU would have done their very best in their attempts to purchase the site.

He says there needs to be a positive focus now on talks between the local authority and a private developer:
