Attempts to remove Strandhill from the County Development plan have been unsuccessful.

 

At the latest sitting of Sligo County Council, an amendment was proposed by Fine Gael Cllr Fergal Nealon to exclude Strandhill from the plan owing to what he claims are a range of concerns locally.

 

The plan is said to pave the way for an increase in population but it’s thought the area can’t absorb that growth due to a lack of community facilities.

 

The road and wastewater network are also said to be key areas of concern.

 

The proposal was not supported by other Cllrs.

 

Cllr Nealon says he’s not anti-housing in Strandhill but other infrastructure needs to improve in the first instance:
