The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris has welcomed the agreement secured at European level on additional mackerel landings, worth an estimated €32 million to Ireland’s coastal and fishing communities.

 

It’s thought that the development will benefit many fishing communities including Donegal.

 

Simon Harris outlined how that this is a significant step forward for our fishing industry, adding that these are real jobs, real communities and a real local economy and this agreement is an important confidence-building measure.

 

 The Tánaiste, who recently visited Killybegs alongside Senator Manus Boyle to meet with fishing industry representatives, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with the sector. “There is an onus on us as a government to work hand in glove with the fishing industry.

 

He went on to Minister’s Martin Heydon, Timmy Dooley and Senator Manus Boyle for all the work they’ve done in securing the breakthrough.
