A government TD in the North West says the upcoming fuel tax rises should be suspended.
It's feared that there could be a potential return to widespread protests, if Carbon tax increase goes ahead as planned, on September 1st.
Should the charge be restored it will push diesel prices above 2 euro.
Sligo Deputy Eamon Scanlon says that while the Dáil is not due to return until September 16th the government are monitoring the fuel price situation carefully.
The Sligo Leitrim Deputy has warned that now is not the time for such increases.
