 

A Sligo based Junior Minister has hit back at criticism levelled at local Government TDs over their stance on the future of the Western Rail track from Collooney to Bellaghy.

 

Earlier this week an emergency motion was passed by councillors at a meeting of Sligo/Strandhill Municipal District Council calling on Iarnrod Eireann to reverse its decision to allow the development of a Greenway along the old rail track.

 

Following the meeting it was claimed that local government TD's should have rejected plans to grant permission for the greenway and fight instead for the railway to be reopened.

 

Speaking to Ocean FM Minister of state Frank Feighan says he is in favour of both projects coming to fruition.

 

He warns however that a greenway is a much more realist project for the time being.
