A North West Junior Minister has welcomed plans to scrap proposals to install breathalyser terminals in pubs and hotels.

The RSA initiative was set to cost €1.5 million and aimed to install 20 terminals across the country, allowing people to test their alcohol levels before driving.

Politicians raised concerns that the initiative could send mixed messages about drink-driving, despite the RSA insisting it was designed to improve road safety.

Junior Minister Frank Feighan says that, although well-intentioned, the initiative sent out mixed messages in relation to drink-driving.
