A Sligo Councillor is questioning why the government is considering making cyclists put registration plates on their bikes.

 

 

The measure is being considered alongside new rules on e-scooters, which are coming into force next month.

 

Road Safety Minister Seán Canney says registration plates and a requirement to wear protective equipment is also being looked at for cyclists.

 

Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Donal Gilroy agrees with any moves to improvement cyclist safety but says introducing a registration system for bicycles is a step too far
