A dispute at the National Ambulance Service has intensified after SIPTU claimed a commitment to provide permanent contracts to newly qualified paramedics has not been honoured.

 

The HSE has rejected the claim, saying training contracts have simply been extended to allow for a recruitment process.

 

However, the union says members are now being asked to reapply for roles they are already carrying out, at a time when staff are balloting for potential industrial action.

 

Speaking to Ocean FM News, SIPTU’s John McCamley says the move has blindsided graduates and risks adding further pressure to frontline ambulance services already facing rising demand.
