A call for clarity on 2027 funding for autism support workers in the Sligo-Leitrim Home Youth Liaison Service was raised in the Seanad this afternoon

The service is seeking €125,000 in annual funding to sustain supports and expand provision across secondary schools, including the recruitment of a second autism support officer.

An interim €78,125 once-off funding package has been agreed for 2026, with recruitment and contractual arrangements currently being progressed with the HSE.

Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Nessa Cosgrove says the longer young people are supported in school, the greater their chances of success will be.
