A national strike by public sector workers is underway in an ongoing dispute over pay.

Schools and colleges will be closed, while non-emergency procedures and operations have been cancelled in hospitals as teachers and nurses take to the picket lines.

It's the biggest public service strike in more than 15 years with more than 300-thousand workers taking part.

On the picket line outside Sligo University Hospital early this morning was Pat Fallon, Local Chair of the Sligo Health and Local Government Branch of the Forsa Union, as well as a member of the union's National Executive.

He says he was angered by Minister Jack Chambers' appearance on Prime Time on RTE TV last night.
