The Foreign Affairs Minister says her department is ready to provide consular assistance to Irish citizens detained by Israeli forces, following the seizure of vessels participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla.

 

 

The activists were taken in international waters off the coast of Greece, and left on a beach in northern Crete overnight.

 

 

There were about 180 in total, seven of whom are believed to be Irish nationals.

 

Sligo based GP, Margaret Connolly is one of those travelling on the Flotilla.

 

 

It’s understood that the sister of the Irish President is not one of those arrested.

 

Helen McEntee says the safety and wellbeing of those involved is a clear priority.

 

Human Rights Campaigner Caoimhe Butterly is on an independent observer boat sailing alongside the flotilla.
