Dozens of basking sharks have been spotted close to shore off Mullaghmore Head in a rare and spectacular wildlife event.

 

The giant sharks, some estimated at up to 25 feet long, were seen feeding and travelling in groups beneath Classiebawn Castle.

 

Photographer and videographer Gary McCall captured remarkable footage, describing the sight of so many sharks so close to land as pretty incredible.

 

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Gary McCall said the size of the sharks and how close they were to shore made it one of the most extraordinary wildlife moments he has ever seen.

 

 

Meanwhile, Mark O’Connor, Co-Founder of Donegal Bay Trust, says these close sightings are rare and show the richness of marine life off the Donegal coast.
