A Sligo Councillor is warning that new initiatives aimed at cleaning up illegal dumping and dog fouling may not be successful due to the difficulties that arise when it comes to issues fines for such offences.

Cllr Donal Gilroy says it's difficult to secure a conviction for such an offence and that the attitude of the general public needs to change when it comes to dumping rubbish


A €250,000 fund will provide more dog waste bins and bag dispensers in parks and on beaches - while litter fines will increase from €150 to €250 from September.
