A worrying trend of significant overcrowding continued at Sligo University Hospital last month.

The INMO are reporting that in the North-West, 1,123 patients were treated on trolleys, chairs, or other unsuitable spaces during the month of May.

Indeed Sligo University Hospital was among the top 5 most overcrowded hospitals, with 782 patients on trolleys during that period.


The INMO is calling for urgent legislation to guarantee safe staffing and protect patients and staff.

Sligo Councillor and Regional Health Forum member, Edel McSharry agrees with those claims.
