Leitrim Councillor warns of dental waiting lists increasing as Dentists engage in industrial action

A Leitrim Councillor is warning that the decision to engage in industrial action taken by Dentists working in the HSE will add to already lengthy waiting list locally.

The Irish Dental Association says the vote is in response to planned restructuring within the HSE, following what it calls "the disastrous restructuring of dental services in 2004 and 2011".

Earlier this year Deputy Pearse Doherty claimed in the Dáil that the current dental care treatment model was in crisis.

Cllr Brendan Barry says with many Dentists already not engaging with HSE this is another major blow those looking to access services locally.
