A Leitrim Councillor says new planning guidelines going before Cabinet today, will give those born in the North West a chance to live locally and in the process help inject new life back into rural communities that are on the brink of extension in some cases.

 

The proposals forms part of a wider overhaul of planning policy for rural and Gaeltacht communities and will make it easier for people in rural Ireland to build a second home on family land.

 

Kinlough based Councillor Justin Warnock has been a long-time advocate for such moves. 

 

He says at last construction activity could return to rural parts of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal. 

 

The Fianna Fáil elected representative says for too long Landlords and those in the holiday home market have scoped up any available properties.
