A Leitrim Councillor has called for a review of our wind energy operations.

 

 

Cllr James Gilmartin made the calls after it emerged that Wind farms generated record levels of electricity last month, helping to reduce wholesale power prices across the country.

 

However, a new report from Wind Energy Ireland says 15 per cent of the country's wind energy was still lost during the first six months of the year because of limitations on the electricity grid.

 

The independent Councillor this is disappointing at a time of high energy prices and says a grid infrastructure upgrade is required along with the introduction of a smarter grid.
