A Leitrim Councillor says a discussion on reducing back to school costs needs to be had.


Many parents are facing significant bills to coincide with secondary schools in particular reopening in August and September.


It's estimated that Secondary school parents face bills of more than two thousand euro this year, according to new research from the Irish League of Credit Unions.

 

The survey says that more than one in four expect to go into debt, with the average amount borrowed rising to €430 euro.

 

Leitrim independent Councillor James Gilmartin says despite good educational supports being in place there are still some costs on parents that can be reduced.
