A €20 million fund has been opened to support outdoor recreation projects in rural communities under the 2026-2027 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.


The scheme has already delivered major benefits across the North West, including projects in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.


Community groups are being encouraged to engage with their local authorities, with grants of up to €500,000 available for larger strategic developments.


Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor James Gilmartin says the funding has transformed local amenities across the region and is a wonderful opportunity for communities with new project ideas.
