Dr Marion Dowd, a lecturer in archaeology at Atu Sligo, has discovered burial grounds used for babies who died without being baptised.


Until reforms in the 1960s, the Catholic Church did not permit unbaptised babies to be buried in consecrated ground.


A total of 32 unrecorded burial sites has been found across Co Sligo including Lisheen na bPáistí in Rosses Point.
