Shock and disappointment are just some of the words used to describe the feeling among the Calry National School community this morning as they come to terms with the decision taken by the Department of Education not to sanction an additional teacher to the school for the new academic year.

 

The decision was taken despite the numbers attending school increasing in September.

 

There is concern expressed that local children may be without a school place this coming September and will have to attend a school elsewhere.

 

Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Marie Casserly says the Principal at the school which will have an enrolment of over 200 students will have no choice but to combine teaching and management responsibilities:
