A proposal has been put forward at latest Sligo County Council Meeting to automatically retrofit all older council-owned homes across Ireland within the next 10 years.


The scheme would remove the need for tenants to apply individually for energy upgrade works, with councils receiving multi-annual funding instead.


The aim is to improve energy efficiency, reduce fuel poverty and ensure council tenants live in warmer, more comfortable homes.


Speaking to Ocean FM News, Cllr Ann Higgins says the Government should introduce a simple long-term plan to retrofit every older local authority home within the next decade.
