With warm weather arriving in the North West, pet owners are being urged to take extra care as animals can quickly suffer in rising temperatures.

 

Experts advise using the “five second rule” on pavements and walking dogs in the cooler morning or evening hours to avoid burnt paws and heat stress.

 

Pets should never be left in cars, conservatories, or direct sunlight, as temperatures can become deadly very quickly even on mild days.

 

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Gitta McMullan from Animals in Need Donegal says she cannot emphasise enough how important it is to prevent pets from overheating and becoming dehydrated.
