Whoever said orange is a new pink with seriously disturbed laurels for spraying groundbreaking? Oh my god, you have to do it.

      You live for fashion.

Hello, and welcome to Nothing to Wear, the podcast that solves fashion problems and levels up your wardrobe. I am Lee Campbell, and every single week I speak to an expert who helps us work out how to get more out of the clothes we already own and tells us exactly what is and isn't worth adding.

      To our wardrobe.

This is part two of our winter fashion feature. We couldn't get through all your questions, but Zara Wong and I were desperate to answer them all, so we thought we'd do a part two and quickly. While we're on the topic of winter, my wonderful co host Kelly and I were talking about winter skincare on New Beauty this past Monday, so we're going to link to that episode of New Beauty in this episode of No I Think to Wear show notes. It's such a helpful deep dive into layering your skincare for the cooler months. Okay, let's get into the fashion questions. So Zara, we are here again this week for part two of Winter. Ask me anything, because it seems like get interested in winter is confusing and hard. But before we get into this second episode of our Winter ask me anything, I want to ask you a question. If you had to narrow down one fashion muse, do you have one?

      And who would that be?

Yes? I do, And I'm always like you kind of don't want to say sometimes because it's like revealing a little secret. Yeah, who you look at for inspiration?

      Yes?

But when I worked at Vogue, one of my colleagues said, so, you know who your style spirit animal is? And I was like, who is it? She was like, it's Lauren Santa Domingo.

I don't know who that is.

She is so chic. That is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me. Please say it again into my voice recorder and I'm going to retain this every She she's a founder of moder Operandi.

      Oh I do know who?

She used to be an editormate Vogue. Okay, and do you follow her? I do follow her and she posts a lot. She posts like moderately, like it's not cheap moderately, but she gets photographed a lot, so you can google image search her, okay, and she's just the perfect. Her Street Star fashion Week is perfect. Her corporate work outfits are great, and I love how it's like appropriate but a bit of a fashion twist. Oh, who's yours?

You know who I've loved two years Rosie Huntington Whitely, Like I love how she does a beautiful point with a legging and a blazer or a jacket.

      She does winter well.

I don't always want to be her because it's not always that practical. The beautiful outfits I love, but she just does a great pointed courtshoe and a pant or a legging. When I say legging, like obviously the slim line, maybe a leather pant, nice top.

The thing with Rosie hunter and whe is that she's got great tests and she's really good at getting a classic element. Yes, that's something you already own. She'll wear a black blazer, a white T shirt, beige pants. Yes, and you're like, oh, I got that, I've got That's why I've been.

      So many green shots.

I follow one of her fan pages and i've taken so many screenshots over the years because I'm like, I basically got all.

That, You've got all that, but she puts them together, the hair and it's the makeup, and it's also looking like Rosy Hunters.

No h it's like the ninety meter long legs.

But she's a good one. And also because she's got kids, so she's got that practical element. But she does wear leggings and a sneaker and a big puffy and she's like, so we can.

Yeah, my fucker call me Rosie. We've been asked to recommend where to shop belted blazers and this one stumped you and me for us. But then I've done some research and guess what. I'm obsessed with belted blazers. There's some really cool ones. And you know why I like it because I'm forever oversized. Give me oversized blazers.

      I love it.

But this does something to the silhouette. Yeah, it is honestly so beautiful. Forever you have a gorgeous one. It's called the Daisy double breasted belted blazer and the color I'm looking at it's like a soft whitey beige and it's just got this like kind of wrap around thie waist belt that is stunning. There's the brown forecast Patricia Belted Blazer one hundred and fifty nine ninety five that is in black and it just does like probably more offic swuear. Or you could do that with like a wide leg pant or a jean if you want to dress it down. But my biggest tip is because I have five thousand blazers, am I allowed to get another one?

No, well, we'll talk about that later.

I bought a four pack of skinny belts off Amazon. It was forty six dollars for four. I got a white, a beige, a brown, and a black. But there's other variations. There's a navy, you're gray, and you can just you know, depending on the belt, the thickness of the fabric, if it kind of cinches nicely, you can sinch in anything with these belts.

I think belts, like as you said, are such a big trend. I've seen belts everywhere I'm buying belt. I bought a thin black leather belt from Zara. Yeah, because it's kind of I saw, Goot, you did something similar, and I thought you can like tied around a knit piece. Yeah, get tied around a blazer or a long coat belts at and very sheet. Yes, it's one of those looks though that looks great, but you can't get your coat of.

It's so annoying, I know, because then if you leave it at didn't you're taking off your belt as well if you need to go to the bathroom.

But look, we're not here to talk about that kind of practicality.

Exactly, it's looking good. Victorian Woods have a blazer belted on sale at the moment. You three two nine nine and it's down to one nine nine. I've got a couple of their blazers.

      Their qualities.

It's really good quality, amazing and it's easy. It's lightweight. This blazer has a little like class but the front and I feel like that little metal class on the belt just ties it together. Yes, it looks very purposeful. Exactly, it was just meant to be there. And I think that's the thing with belts. You have to make it look like you plan and not like you threw it on and it's tied in a weird way.

      I agree with you.

And a lot of the belts, like when we say belt, there's obviously like the traditional leather belt. But a lot of these are fabric belts as well.

I'm not a now glush. I'm very up and down. So sometimes when it's the same matching fabric belt on the blazer, it's a bit more flattering because it doesn't break up your body so much. Yes, I've usually yeah, I've got an old jacket from Zara like that, and I'm just looking at Zara now they've got an updated version. It's like a beige tan fitted belt blazer with belt and that's one hundred and eighty five dollars.

I'm not allowed any more blazers, but this podcast makes me spend so much money. Now listen, I have no idea with this question. Are there fashionable winter hats? I'm not a hat person. I mean I'm a sun protection person.

I love a hat. I still think you can wear a cap, yes, yes, you know you think of that Princess Die in the Ages Early Night is going to the gym kind of look. You can still wear that. Yes, were with a trench coat, jeans and it looks really chic.

Yeah, if you do like UK or Paris winter street style, yes you'll get a lot of caps.

One of our little themes in this podcast is that we talk a lot of accessories, and I feel like the cap just kind of makes it a bit more like casual or a bit more weakend, and that it's like cool without going over wall.

Otherwise, hats can feel a bit famy. I mean, I love the look of a beret on some people, but for me, I feel like I look like I'm going to a French dress up party.

      Some of the kind of.

Felty more kubra styles can look cool, like if you're doing a winery tour with like the right outfit.

Yeah, I think it depends on context. In Sydney because I don't think we're that dressy. I do have like black felt for the wide brim. I do kind of feel like I get looks when I way to see and I do sometimes go to the park, go to a kid's birthday party, yes, but when I weren't on holidays, people don't really bat an eyelid, right. I think it sort of depends on context.

      So it's on a beanie, a.

Tight beanie, or like a loose me. I kind of like the look of the loose beanie, but also I am in a millennial and I think we curse and Dunst in that movie. You know that movie.

I can't think of what it's called, but I know what you mean.

Where she wears a red knitted loose cap.

Yes, look for a girl in a red hat who's waiting for you with an alternate plants.

And I bought the coffee of it on Etsy when I was in Uni that movie, so you know what. I still think it's kind of cute, but it is such a look of that time. It's such a look.

I don't know the movie, but I know the pictures.

She's wearing like a black band tea and like this tea cozy thing on her head exactly. Yes, I've only ever done a beanie in overseas cold weather, purely through necessity.

It's a Sydney thing where we don't really do. Hat's here.

Someone has asked with jackets. I'm five foot one and feel like trenches don't suit me.

      What are my options?

Okay, I still think a trench could suit, but it's about where it sits on the shoulders. A lot of these oversized trenches have dropped shoulders, which make it look really oversized. You probably just need to find a more regular fit track.

      A classic track more classic.

Exactly, he hits the knee alonger because what is sort of and for trenches is that oversized looks. You just get a normal, regular cutres rather than the oversize.

      It might look.

Oversize on a height like that.

      Yeah.

I'm also really loving bomber jackets, which I think look good on petite people.

      Yeah.

Sure, And there's a lot of cropped bomber jackets and crop jackets in general.

Actually, back to when I was in Paris, I bought the viral Zara grab it felt my mother stole it.

      She's nearly eighty.

She loves it. I have got a black one that I got a thrift store. Bombers are actually super comfy and look really cool with the right outfiel. Like, you're not going to put them over an evening dress, but I think kind of.

You open to it. Not to a wedding, Okay, not to a wedding, but like I'm saying, like a nice dinner out, yeah, and unexpected where like I'm thinking, like you know this the Japanese rand sakhai, which you will do like a beautiful lace sequin kind of crazy dress with like a chic bomb on top. I love that sort of juxtaposession.

It's like the wrong shoe trend, where you go, Okay, these shoes should go with that outfits or wear the other shoes. So it's a bit more like I would normally reach for that coat, but let's try something different.

Yeah, but it has to look deliberate. Yeah, trucked it on, but it needs like a similarity in terms of like color tone.

I need you to come over and help me mix and match. What about a good.

Old is a duster coat? What's the traditional coat, you know, like a good old wool coat?

      Yeah, a dust coat?

      Yeah?

      Coat? Maybe coat.

That's what I was trying to think of, which is a traditional.

Cost So it's long, but not super long, because the idea is that when you get out of a car, it doesn't wipe the floor with it.

Yeah, it doesn't get wet in the puddle.

Yes, I actually think that could be coming back in because we've seen so many long, oversized, ankle linked coats for so long and now it's like, okay, what's next. That could be that shape?

There goes my whole coat wardrobe only joking, I can reinvest. That's probably a try in store type vibes because it's so hard to shop online when you've got specifics like that and just set us out a couple of hours on every coat in New Westfield exactly.

But there's cropped jackets, blazer, everything, there's so many crops. Crops not so great for tall people, great for shorter people.

And I know I've specifically said jackets, but I think that encompasses a nice thick tailored blazer like that can keep you warm enough exactly like able blazer looks great on a petite figure.

Where the uniclorhat text givy underneath.

      There you go.

Okay, what are some mum uniforms for out in the cold at the park on the side of the footy.

Oh my gosh, this is my husband plays football in the winter. It's hell.

I know how this person feels. I personally don't care what I look like, but I have some options. There's these viral yoga leggings from Amazon that I've recommended many times.

But they come in a fleece lined version.

      Sounds tasty.

They are so good, so the regular like yoga version is just straight down to the ankle. You can get them in plain black so layered with like a knit and a trench.

You can't really tell that they're active wear.

But they also do a sort of straight leg with a very mild flare, so it just kind of looks like pants.

Yeah. I think a mild flow is really flattering on. I think even when you were saying without wear.

You kind of wear anything underneath totally, and like you could do a boot, a lovely flat boot with these, they just look like black pants and telling you they're so fleecy and so warm, but still slim line like it doesn't feel like it adds a.

      Lot of bulk.

Yeah, And I think that's important, Yeah, to not feel like you're looking really slippy. I am currently obsessed with I bought these wool Cash of Your pants from H and M on sale. I think they came down to ninety nine dollars. Yeah, and they have been so good that I bought them a month ago and I still haven't washed them because I want to wear them every single day I made them. I'll send you the lead.

      Are they still on sale?

I don't know if they're still, but they were, like, you know, each and them go and sell every few weeks a member. Yes, you can percent off always, and then they give you a little tokens like you've got three dollars, But I wear them all the time, and like, I think, similar to the shape you have. They're quite slimline with a very very slight flare, and I feel like that just makes you feel a bit more polished and you're not wearing like leggings again, or like a joggle or a sweatpant. And I wear them with a nice T shirt, throwing a pair of birken stocks, or like a nice ballet flat.

And I think that little tiny flat makes it easier to pay footwear exactly because it's not so hard.

I think what makes outfits look a bit data at the moment is when the ankle goes really tight. Yes, you know, we talk about skinning legs a lot. I don't think skinning legs have had it stay. But if they aren't tight of the ankle, you can still probably get away with it. Another pat that I've just found that looks similar to my which I haven't tried, but it's from Everlane's Lane seventy six dollars on sale, the wall flannel pour on pad. And I think the beauty of these pants that they have elastic.

Yeah, they feel like a track pad.

If they look a bit fancier, exactly, I'm going to be very warm the same time and broke. Next question, what are some wet weather options that don't make me look like I'm going camping? Good, because I'm not going camping. The rain has been a bit more sporadic around here. I've got some options. I mean, the traditional trench coat in its design was to be waterproof or water is exactly. Now plenty of them aren't, so it can be quite confusing, but I do have some options. Good Old Lulu Lemon has the most beautiful. I have it on my list as well. It looks really good.

      It looks so good.

So they've got the three in one insulated raincoat, but it looks like a trench Is that the one you had?

Yes, that's what I had. Looks really sleek.

It's just so lovely and you could wear it to the gym, but you could also wear it with everything. It comes in a beigey kind of color or a traditional black. Then one of my general recommendations is to go on an OS website that ships to Australia that does wet weather. Well, that's basically a UK brand. So next has so many options. They've got the Jewels Wholcombe waterproof packable raincoat with hood.

It's water red at it's very.

Very subtle, very very subtle, packs away in a pouch, but it's got a hood.

      It's very cool.

Great to have on hand if you know you're out for a full day and you have no idea what the weather's going to do. I'm obsessed with that. And then faux leather, as long as you're not stuck in a downpour, tsunami, foax leather can it's just kind of white plate.

I to say, it's so easy. If it has the word coated or waxed fabric, that's usually fine. Or if it's like a cotton twill that's really tightly woven.

      Yes, exactly what I mean.

Yeah, And you don't want to do your real leather in the rain because that's been treated and smelly and all four.

Yeah, you want to make that last. Yeah.

I got a very affordable full length foux leather trench coat last year and I love that MINS have one at the moment. It's the faux Leather Belted trench coat and it is one hundred and ninety nine dollars, comes in black or like a beautiful creamy white. But there's a lot of them around, so again, can look a bit matrix but styled right or purely for wanting to look stylish when you're in wet weather, faux leather.

Yeah, I think that's a really good call. My suggestions are maybe a little bit less practical than yours, probably maybe a paraitize the look. So for the bougie side, I mean, as you said, look at places where they really specialize in weather clothing, barb or that British brawn. Yeah, but I just watched The Gentleman and they all wore barboar jackets, and now I'm obsessed with getting a barboar jacket. They do a lot of coated, a lot of twill, and you know, they look really chic and cool. Yeah, and I feel like that feel look jacket Coach is really in trend at the moment. Like jw Anson did it? Love did it? Prior to me? You have done it for budget option. Uniclo have a really good utility short blues on in the men's section. Oh have you seen that one?

      No?

      Oh, I love it.

      I haven't bought it.

It yet, but it's only ninety nine dollars field jacket and it has a little corduroy collar and it comes in black.

It's good style. I've always wondered what that was.

So they've caught it utility short blues on Okay. Another hack I have is I go buy a lot of vintage kind of field jackets or blues on jackets. I literally got Etsy type and field jacket. I have an amazing vinted jacket, actually bought in Japan, but I've seen some of the ones on Etsy, and I bought it for undred one hundred dollars.

      Wow, that's so good.

And then that's generally really durable. It's so durable old, yes, pretty much brand new.

I bought it and then Totem came out with an identical one baitterally like a season later, and you're like, see, I bought this for nine nine dollars. I love that you close a really good one. And also look in the men's section.

Always look in the men's section, Like.

Men's clothes are actually better quality.

I just bought a woolnit from You and Ago, and it's from the men's section. The women's one version of it was a tiny bit too thin. I didn't wan chunky, chunky, but on medium yep, men's section. Next question, are structured raincoats a thing?

Now? What do you think this person means like a structured blazer time?

I was like, sort of, because I think the point of a raincoat is that you want to be able to layer underneath. Yes, maybe they're thinking about raincoats that are really thin a poncho and they're like, is the anything a bit more structured? Yes, which I think. Then you look for words like Parker utility, Yes for your jacket. Yeah.

Well I found the most beautiful Mason Marziella structured raincoat that was thousands of dollars.

I was like, that's going to be Valla and Mark have a really nice raincoat that's a nice boogie version. It is six and fifty dollars.

Okay, so if you're in a very rainy area it can maybe spring for that one.

But you look great, you will.

Another brand worth looking at is rains, which the name suggests as you would think, they specialize in raincoats. They're on Iconic and they've got pieces and sale. They kind of retail for around two hundred dollars, but they're on sale for ninety nine I'm iconic at the moment their proper raincoast and I think that's when you have to understand. It's like the trade off between form and function.

Yeah, it can't always be superstyle exactly.

Now, last question before we get into bougie budget, I need ideas for a winter wedding as a guest.

This always confuses me. I have never been to a winter weinning. But how cold are we thinking?

Do you think if it's a winter wedding in Brisbane?

      Exactly?

But I'm assuming they're asking because they're worried about being chill Tasmania.

I think there were really beautiful evening gowns at the moment that are long.

Sleep There is a lot of long sleeve yeah, and.

If you look for long sleeves in a synthetic material like a polyester yees thick kind of exactly. That doesn't breathe that you would sweat through something that you'd sweat through ordinarily wear that, yes, Or you wear like your classic cocktail evening with.

      Or I don't mind a faux fur, yeah, I don't mind it.

A goodl from Zara, Yeah, Azara unreal fur very expensive, but they make beautiful fur coats and look, there's an interesting argument around faux fur if it then continues the trend of wanting to wear the look of.

Fur and it buy a degrees really badly. It does.

But if that's really what you're gonna need, if they're getting married in Threadbow, even go on top Shop because again websites like top Shop asoce have some really great options. And next, because they're in the other season, they're often on sale now selling what they just finish wearing. Yeah, so we'll want to wear there's a top Shop coat that is fur but not real one hundred and ninety dollars. So I guess it depends again how often you'll wear. If we're buying from one event, consider hiring.

      I think that's a really good idea.

Actually, Also another point on that is you don't have to address I love a suit. Oh that's a good one, you know, like a beautiful emerald green or a beautiful burg.

You don't have to wear a.

Dressing jacket blazer on top exactly exactly.

And velbote, Yes, velvet could beautiful. So don't just automatically think strappy dress could be long sleeve, it could be a beautiful maxi skirt and a beautiful embellish knit. As long as it's evening, you can wear anything to but not white or ask for bride first.

It's very expensive. I want you these percent onto.

Bougie Budget Episode two, the surprise episode of our Winter Ask me anything. Okay, So our bougie and budget again this week are just going to be wintry things that we've either purchased recently, or have our eye on, or just think everyone needs to know about. Would you like to start with your bougie or your budget?

Okay, I'll start with my budget okay, because it's way more realistic this boogie. I'm not gonna buy. Maybe I will. You never know. My husband's isn't listening to this. So the half zip sweater.

Oh yes, at the collar or at the sign No, it's the collar.

Yes, you know that half sip. You've seen it around. I think it's everywhere. It's sort of been percolating for the last like four issues, but I've seen a couple of updates on it that look a bit more different, a bit cool, or a bit more elevated. So my budget is a half zip sweater from Uniclo. What I love about it is that it's ribbed and it's got a bigger collar, so it's a bit more dramatic.

I think's great, and I think that actually.

Makes look more fashion because sometimes when it doesn't have a design element, it just looks like whatever, just pick it up, rolled out correct, Yes, but this you can do a lot of the page is basically sold.

Out, like that's your sign, Yeah, that's the sign.

But the bougie version sadly is from p Johnson Thumb.

I know, so this is a very expensive I know.

I walked past it sort of a manner and I tried it on. I know, you know where it's going to go, and I was like, it looks so nice.

      How much is it?

      Seven nine to five?

It's a lot of money. It's a lot of money.

Well it's not even a net. It's like a moir. It looks like silk, but it's like textured silk. I think it's a polyester.

Oh you're not paying seven hundred dollars for polyester, my friend.

      I know.

So it's really nice and I put it on and I was like, I just feel fancy and expensive. Then I sadly put it back. It also has a matching skirt which looks really cute with it. But yeah, it's been a trend for a while if you haven't bought into it. So I was like, is this it?

This is it? But not that one?

      Not that one.

Okay, my budget is kind of a flush in the pan trend. I think that that's why I'm going to go cheap on it. Lots of knits at the moment. Have we're talking like going out fancy stuff. It's like a thin knit cardigan, but it sits off the shoulder, so it's from glassons off the shoulder button through long sleeve knits.

Oh, this is one hundred percent, isn't it me?

Because this is like jeans and a nice top. But what do you do in winter?

So the with like my cool straight leg jeans or even like I've got a semi barrel pan, Like I'm into the barrel.

Yes, the bower is really you. I think that it's like a.

      Kitten heel or a pump.

It's like someone's taken their crew neck cardigan and then folded.

It off exactly and just sort of shrug off their shoulders. Yes, And I think because it's so skin bearing on top, you want to do something full on the bottom pants approach.

That's what I thought. It comes into basi and it comes into a black.

      At thirty nine ninety nine.

It's pretty good, right, And I think I've seen them everywhere. I have seen some fancy versions of that, but I don't think it I'd get enough wear out of it to justify spending that much money. My bougie is completely unpractical, ridiculous that it's my husband's birthday in winter, so to wear to his winter birthday, I've bought a fancy dress. It's from Chic. It's not that expensive. It's the Amsterdam Maxi Dress. It's a faux leather maxie dress visual in a gray. I would call like it a gumal ray. It's two thirty nine ninety nine and it's got this beautiful detailing like you need to see the It's a bit like Marshella or it cohens. It sucks everything in, it gives you a beautiful shape. I think I'm going to wear it as the Maxi wants and then get it cut to a midi oh yes, or even a mini. I mean I might even cut it myself. It's fake leather. It's just really unusual.

Yeah, I think that's a really beautiful dress and with a question about winter weddings, that's perfect for winter wearing.

Is so true because I think if it was black, it would just be like, that's a black fake leather dress. It does come in black, but the gray is just really quite unexpected.

That's also where they actually lean into the whole point of using fake leather then weight and that drape like it gives a little bit of drama, like if that was in silk, it was like, oh yeah, whatever, yeah silk drape dress. But that makes nice and.

The buckles at the back are great and also they're adjustables. It fits beautifully around the bust. There's your present hum Me.

      In a dress.
