In November 2022, four University of Idaho students; Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, were brutally stabbed to death inside an off-campus share house in Moscow, Idaho, in a crime that shocked the world. After a seven-week investigation involving DNA, cellphone records and surveillance footage, criminology PhD student Bryan Kohberger was arrested, later pleading guilty to the murders and receiving four consecutive life sentences without parole—though his motive has never been publicly explained.
