STORY 1: Suspect Arrested After East Rome Shooting Incident

Police in East Rome responded to a shooting incident where Christopher Nicholas Hunter, 39, allegedly fired at his girlfriend during an argument. The incident occurred near the intersection of Evergreen Street at Cedar Avenue. Fortunately, the girlfriend was unharmed. Hunter was arrested at the scene and faces charges of felony aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. As of Tuesday afternoon, he remained in Floyd County Jail without bond.

STORY 2: Youth Pastor Gets 19 Years in Prison for Sexually Abusing Two Boys

A man stepped forward to stop youth pastor Christopher Codding from adopting two boys, despite the pain of his own abuse by Codding as a child. The man testified at Codding's sentencing, describing the grooming and abuse he suffered. This led to an investigation, revealing Codding’s abuse of other boys, and his guilty plea to charges of child molestation and sodomy. Despite support for Codding from his community, the judge sentenced him to 19 years in prison, recognizing the severity of his crimes and the courage of the victims who came forward.

STORY 3: Lessons From A Tragedy: How Brunswick Survived The Fallout Of Racial Murder

When Ahmaud Arbery was killed in a predominantly White neighborhood in Brunswick, it took weeks for his death to gain national attention and become a local crisis. During a Rome Floyd Chamber presentation, panelists Cedrick King and Ralph Staffins III discussed Brunswick’s response to prevent racial unrest. They formed the "No Name Committee" to foster community trust and manage the crisis, especially after a video revealed the true nature of Arbery’s killing. Their efforts included meeting with business leaders and welcoming Black pastors, which helped the community emerge stronger. Relationships built before and during the crisis played a crucial role in maintaining peace and addressing concerns.

STORY 5: Skatepark Officially Opens In Cedartown

Cedartown now has a new skatepark for skateboard and bike enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. City officials and local skaters attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Goodyear Skatepark at Goodyear Park. Funded largely by a $49,174 Hometown Grant from T-Mobile, the skatepark features a 50-square-foot concrete pad with quarter pipes, ramps, and wedges. Open from dawn to dusk, the park requires children under 12 to be accompanied by an adult and recommends all protective gear. The skatepark is part of ongoing enhancements to Goodyear Park, with a new soccer complex also set to open soon.
